In the 1930s, mostly from the years 1934-1936 in America specifically in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico what is called the dustbowl occurred. Which is why the 1930s where nicknamed the “dirty thirty’s” which was caused by the drought. Many people were forced to leave their homes or were trapped in them because of the immense amount of dust. Tons of acres of land was ruined because of the dust, people died because of inhaling dust. It was extremely hard to live in such harsh conditions especially when what is called “black blizzards” came threw the town which caused in hard to see 5 feet in front of you, you could barely breathe and it was dark all day and all night. It resulted in many people leaving the states and migrating to California. While the dustbowl was occurring so was the great depression, which was a huge economic crisis, causing life for someone in the 1930s to be extremely hard. Many people didn’t have homes and were out of money surrounded by dust. The dustbowl was considered one of the worst environmental disasters in the world thus far. People wore dust masks just to do daily things like go to the store or go to school, mothers had to hang sheets over windows and doors to try and stop any dust from getting inside. Regular daily tasks were no longer easy because of how much dust was in the air and on the ground it was everywhere. All crops were dead and farmers and workers lost their jobs.
