The Dead Sea Scrolls The oldest known manuscripts of the Old Testament were only about 1,000 years old, so it was difficult to answer the critic’s objections. When Muhammad Adh-Dhib was a boy, he went searching for a lost goat. While looking, he noticed a strange hole in the rock. When he peeked inside, he saw a number of clay jars. In the jars were priceless treasures – the Dead Sea Scrolls. After the scrolls were recovered and sold in 1954, they were purchased for $250,000 and are kept in the Shrine of the Book at Israel’s national museum. The Dead Sea Scrolls aren’t just copies of Biblical texts. They are also commentaries on the bible and secular texts. Of the scrolls that have been discovered, there are 15 copies of the book of Deuteronomy, 8 of the book of Psalms, and 5 of the book of Daniel. There are many copies of the book of Deuteronomy because the Dead Sea Scrolls were written by the Jewish, who had high respect for Moses. The writings of Daniel were of special interest to the scribes of Qumran. Their writings reveal an expectation of a last day’s war between the children of darkness and the children of light. Daniel’s prophesies of the ultimate victory of God’s people over His enemies no doubt encouraged them. These copies of the book of Daniel are also highly significant for Bible believers today.
