John Winston Ono was a musician, singer and songwriter who was a founder and member of the rock band the Beatles. The Beatles were very popular with young people, especially teenagers. Young people began to have their own type of music. Young people were heavily influenced by the music that they listened to and the Beatle was one of the most popular bands at the time. John Lennon’s song and lyrics spread the message of equality, sexual freedoms and the acceptance of drug use (especially in the songs ‘Imagine’ and ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’)

Mary Quant is a British fashion designer. In 1963, she won the Sunday Times International Fashion Award because of how heavily she influenced young’s people’s fashion. The sixties brought about the ‘Youth Movement’ where young people broke away from the conventional way of life and began forming their own identity as teenagers. Mary Quant is widely attributed to the design and creation of the mini skirt. The miniskirt broke away from traditional women’s clothing and allowed young people to express themselves through their own style of clothing.
