Twenty percent of the population is known as Lao and some also claim Chinese ancestry. The culture of Thailand depends on your religion. One of the most popular customs is the Wai. Wai is a type of greeting which consists of a slight bow with the palms pressed together. Also another custom is the monks. A monk is a man who has withdrawn from the world for religious reasons. There is not an official state religion but ninety-five percent of the population practice Buddhism. Four percent of Thai’s are Muslim and 0.7 are Christian. Traditional Thai clothing is clothing is called Chut Thai. Chut Thai for women includes a pha nung or a chong kraben a blouse, and a sabai. Chut Tai for men includes a chong kraben or pants, a Raj pattern shirt, with optional knee-length, white socks and a sabai. Tradional Thailand clothing is made from raw silk. Education in Thailand is provided by the Thai government. A free education is guaranteed by the constitution. The school system is divided into four stages and in each stage are age groups.
