Terrorism Worldwide Terrorism is a global threat which affects everyone in the planet. Since September 11, 2001, our government implemented very strict policies towards terrorism act. Perhaps that’s the reason why we have lower terrorist incidents than some of the other nations. After 9/11 lives have changed for all Americans. We finally realized what the scale of damage on our soil terrorism can have. After that incident, our priorities shifted towards avoiding terrorism and we reacted well. That’s the reason attacks here are less than other countries. For other countries to prevent high numbers of terrorist acts, they need to implement similar policies as us. There were many terrorist acts after 9/11, but I will only focus on three of those and determine what they have in common. The first incident took place on July 4, 2002 at the Los Angeles International Airport. Hesham Mohamed Hadayet started shooting by an Israeli Airline ticket counter. He killed two people and injured four more (Feldman, 2002). This was an individual act of terrorism. The date he chose to commit this act was significant also as it was America’s Independence Day. I think if this act would been committed two years earlier there would have been much more deaths. Our airport security had been tightened after 9/11 so he could not go beyond the ticket counter. He managed to kill two people and injure four others after being shot dead by a security officer (Feldman, 2002). The next incident took place on March 11, 2004 in Madrid, Spain. Terrorist group from Morocco placed 10 bombs in Madrid’s commuter trains during Madrid rush hour morning. 191 people were killed in this incident and about 2000 injured. This was worst terrorist attack in Spain in its history. The attack came just three days before Spain’s election. This incident had significant effect on the result of election as well. This attack came exactly two and half years after the 9/11 attack on U.S ("The Worst Islamist Attack in European History", 2013). The last incident we’ll look at took place in London. On July 7, 2005 four terrorists bombed three underground train and a double-decker bus in the city. The bombings killed 52 civilians and the four bombers. Around 700 people were injured in this incident (Campbell, 2005). This attack also took place on morning rush hour. The bombers were relatively young; the oldest was Mohammed Sidque Khan, 30 years old. Shehzad Tanweer was 22, he was second oldest. The other two bombers were teens. Germaine Lindsay was 19 and Hasib Hussain was 18. Khan, Tanweer, and Lindsay detonated the bombs on underground train, while Hasib Hussain detonated the one on Bus (Campbell, 2005).
There are many similarities and differences in these three attacks. All three attacks took place at a public transportation system. The dates of the attacks were significant also. Los Angeles shooting took place on American Independence Day. Madrid Bombings marked two and half years
