Compare and Contrast Community Organizations
The two community organizations that I choose to compare and contrast is Do-All,Inc and United Way. I have worked with both of these organizations in the past, and they are both really good organizations, and do a lot of improve the overall community. Do-All, Inc. evolved from a dream for a better life for people with disabilities. Do-All, Inc was formed in 1952 by the Bay County Association of Retarded Citizens, with the goal of increasing community inclusion by offering training and employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities. Over the past several years, Do-All, Inc. has created additional organizations.
The Material Assistance Center opened in 2006, and it serves as a resource clearinghouse for the community and provides material goods and referrals to families and individuals experiencing crisis and/or financial hardship. This is program that was designed to help more than just those with disabilities. The Cat's Meow Thrift Stores, Perfect Blend Coffee Shop and Smart Choice Café are businesses that allow trainees to gain firsthand experience in a variety of career areas while providing valuable services to the entire Great Lakes Bay Region.
It is Do-All, Inc mission for all people to have the ability and have access to live, work, and play in their communities, and to achieve the best quality of life possible. With this belief in mind, Do-All assists individuals and families in achieving community involvement and self-sufficiency through leadership, empowerment, supports, and training. The agency is dedicated to providing supports for all persons, regardless of ability, to achieve self-sufficiency, to treat all persons with respect and dignity. Do-All, Inc. will truly do all to empower people to make positive choices, gain confidence, enhance employability, and become fully integrated members of our community.
United Way is an organization that offers assistants to needy families and individuals. There are approximately 1,400 United Way across the country that exist in their respective communities to build partnerships and leverage resources to create plans for long lasting community change. Though United Ways share a logo and have similar missions, each United Way is independently incorporated and is led by local staff and volunteers. The work of each United Way is determined by its community needs. United Way of Bay County supports the "Give where you live" opportunities and therefore, you are able to designate all or a portion of your contribution to another United Way agency.
The mission of United Way of Bay County is to build community’s financial and human ability to efficiently and effectively meet human care needs. The vision of United Way of Bay County is to produce efficient and effective outcomes for people in its community by assessing gaps in human services and collaborating with partners to address those gaps. As they develop resources in the community, they then
