Giovanni, Zyana’s 3 year old brother, would always address to his older sister,
“When is grandpa coming?”
She replied, “He’s visiting heaven, he will be living up there.”
“Well can you tell him to move back, we all need him!”
“He can’t Gio! He can’t.” She replied.
She felt an emptiness in her stomach and felt her heart break, she didn’t mean to shout at him when getting the message through. She was just upset at the fact that he will never return.
Zyana lost one of her fatherly role models, her grandpa Ramon ,on August 3, 2007.
Zyana wasn’t the only one who was devastated by her grandfathers death. All his grandchildren learned a different tactic from him. But her grandfather mainly focused on
Zyana, for Zyana was full of happiness and joy, and knew she’ll go far in life. Zyana was the only one that looked up to her grandfather, for he was a hard working man who was devoted to his family, and was a leader in the family. Her grandpa taught her self­independence, he taught her self­assurance, and he also motivated her to follow her dreams and motivated her to achieve the impossible.
Zyana had two younger siblings, Alberto & Giovanni, she hoped to be their role model; for them to look up to her. She needed to follow her grandfather’s foot steps in order for them to look up to her. When she thought about him, she usually felt her heart break and felt a little teardrop come down her cheek. It was a nightly routine for her to yell at God, asking him why he took her grandpa, she wondered why God punished their family. They needed him the most.
Zyana was continuing into eighth grade that summer. She was pretty excited to start school and to show her little brothers how much of a ‘role model’ she was. Zyana met her standards and successfully accomplished them, just for her brothers and especially her

grandpa to be proud of her. She helped in her community, joined programs that dealt with helping kids learn life lessons and values. She knew she was following into her grandfather's foot steps, she felt very proud of herself, she knew her grandpa was watching over her. After walking with her little brothers home each day, she usually went straight to her room, closed the door, and she’d talked to her grandpa. She felt like she got things off her chest while she was speaking with him. She bragged about how she’s becoming more like him and how she continued into 8th grade being more mature.
