Support children’s & young people’s health and safety- CYP 3.4
3.4 1.1
The safety of young children is a paramount importance. In order to ensure the safety of both children and adults, my pre-school has the following policy and practice: * All children are supervised by adults at all times and will always be within of an adult. * Hot water, electric kettles, and cleaning fluids are locked away in the kitchen and children don’t go into the kitchen. * Exit doors and gates are fitted with safety catches or handles high out of children’s reach. * Regular checks will be made to ensure that all appliance and plumbing are in a good state. * All toys and equipment are safe, suitable for the age range concerned and well maintained. * Children playing with water will be continuously supervised. * There will be safe surfaces beneath and around all climbing equipment and such activities will be appropriately supervised.
There is a duty in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure the health and safety of users of playground equipment as far as is reasonably practicable. Evidence of good practice is ensuring the health and safety of users include compliance with the relevant safety standards. Safety checks for indoor areas and outdoors areas and playground inspecting the play area/playground equipment on a regular basis. Reporting any faults to the manager, and removing the equipment until it gets fixed, * Our outdoor area is securely fenced. * Our outdoor area is checked for safety and cleared rubbish before it is used and always risk assessed. * Adults and children are alerted to the danger of poisonous plants, herbicides and pesticides. * Our pool/pond area is securely covered or otherwise guarded. * Where water can form a pool on equipment, it is emptied before the children start playing outside. * All outdoor activities are supervised at all times.
In my setting we have a child that has Epilepsy and Down syndrome. The child is 3 years old; all the staff has had training recently so we know what to do if he was to have Epilepsy seizure. There is always a staff member with
