The Llegalization of Mmarijuana Mariah Sumpter
Marijuana is the most common illicit drug used in the United States. The current debate among the states is the decision of making marijuana legal or not. So far, two states have legalized marijuana use for adults, and 21 states have made it legal for medicinal use. I think it should not be legalized because it is a danger to your health, it impairs people’s judgment; which putsputting them more at risk, and is horrible for your brain.
Some people say marijuana should be legal because at a basic level it helps you think more creative, it also helps relieve stress and makes you happy, and what wrong with a drug that makes you happy and opens up your perspective of what’s around youSome people say marijuana should be legalized because of the benefits of the drug. Many people think marijuana just makes you happy and more creative, but do not think of the negative effects the drug can cause as well. Marijuana can cause: “anxiety, paranoia, and increased heartbeat which can eventually lead to heart attacks,” according to Drugfreeworld.com. Also, the smoke that is inhaled into the lungs from marijuana is an irritant to the lungs and can cause the same effects as cigarette smoke over time. Lastly, marijuana also raises heart rate by 20-100 percent after smoking. These are some of the many different health danger associated with using marijuana. But that is not completely true while marijuana can makes you happy it can also make you paranoid, and impairs your judgment. And although nobody can overdose on marijuana you are three times more likely of developing head or neck cancer compared to someone who doesn’t smoke, you’re also three times more likely of having a heart attack. It’s safer for the public if marijuana is illegal because legalizing it put people health more at risk. While smoking marijuana your judgment is also impaired. Many people make the mistake of driving while high but what they do not know is that and many people often make the mistake of driving while high. When you are high marijuana limits your coordination and distorts your perception (sight, sound, time, touch) this means it can slow down your reaction time, causing a very high possibility of accidents while driving.. And Mmere seconds is all it takes can bemakes the difference between the difference from a huge accident and avoiding getting hit or hitting someone else while driving. According to Health Day News, “Fatal crashes involving marijuana use tripled during the previous decade….” Also researchers from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health report. "Currently, one of nine drivers involved in fatal crashes would test positive for marijuana," said co-author Dr. Guohua Li. Marijuana should also be illegal because of the long term affects it can have on your body.. Long term marijuana users tend to have a worse short term memoryhave bad memories and, irregular brain structures. Long-term marijuana abuse may lead to brain changes resembling in schizophrenia., and long-term marijuana abuse may lead to brain changes resembling schizophrenia. Which is a mental disorder that is treatable but not curable. Legalizing marijuana just puts more people in danger of developing schizophrenia.
As you can see the cons of marijuana greatly out way the pros. So in conclusion unless you have a prescription given by a doctor. The use of marijuana everywhere should be illegal. Because it impairs your judgment gives you a lack of coordination, distorts you perception, makes you three times more likely of having a heart attack or devolving cancer, and has incurable long term affects. With the cons of using marijuana outweighing the pros, marijuana should not be legalized or used without the drug prescribed directly to you for your medical problems. Dealing with the struggles of paranoia and anxiety are not
