Elementary School One of my fondest memories is when I attended Sumner Elementary school in Claremont, CA. It was a start of a new beginning as I was learning how to read and write. Not only did I acquire all of this knowledge that I will forever use in my life, but it also meant something that I will always have in my life. Little did I know when I was in kindergarten that I was sitting next to my future husband, Neil. Our teacher Mrs. Hanson was very kind and caring to all the kids. I remember her classroom as I walked in everyday smelling like paste and crayons; it was very bright and colorful with all the art that we did hung up on the walls. Every morning all the kids would sit on the carpet as she read stories to us with such excitement and she always made us participate by reading along. Neil and I sat at the same table which was table 1, and we would enjoy making arts and crafts together and being the first table to be let out to recess. As time went on in the school year we developed our own group of friends, that till this day we still share the same friends. Over the next couple of years Neil and I didn’t have the same class until 5th grade. Our teacher was Mrs. Boss, and her name says it all. Her class was like being in the junior military for kids. Every morning we would line up in alphabetical order according to last name for roll call and if we were out of order we would hear it, “why don’t you know your ABC’s”. Her classroom wasn’t very cheery it had writing samples of cursive all over the walls and smelled like an old burnt vanilla candle. One of mine and Neil’s
Both Ends of the Social Class Spectrum Reminiscing on my childhood, I would say I was a very fortunate child. Growing up, I attended private primary schools because my parents wanted to make sure that I always strived for an exceptional education. I had both the social capital and the economic capital necessary to succeed in our society. With that being said, my father made it a priority to send me to Holy Name and St. Agnes Catholic School in Mission, Kansas where wearing uniforms was the social…

Abortion is one of the most highly controversial moral issues in the world. In this paper, I will explain the moral issues in terminating foetuses. Three distinct positions on the morality of terminating a foetus will be explored. First is the position where foetuses have an inalienable right to life. The second position is that foetuses are a part of a woman’s body, therefore has the right to terminate the foetus whenever she pleases. The third position is that foetuses possess the right to live…

the court system in the south. This led to them being set free by a jury who unanimously decided the verdict of not guilty. Many were hurt by this verdict including congressman Charles Diggs Jr. of Detroit who stated “I am disappointed. I went to Sumner with the hope that the Till case would result in conviction,” (The Eyes on the Prize Civil Rights Reader, pg. 38) and others wanted this same thing too, yet they did not receive what they wanted because of the majority of racism in the south. company’s efficiency. capitalism some are at an advantage, and many are at a disadvantage. This difference between people is what Madison argued caused factions. Of coarse factions will always be present because people will always disagree, but for the purpose of this paper social classes seem like a faction of there own. In which the rich have their priorities, the poor have their worries, and the working class has their struggles. These separate groups of individuals are all more or less driven by the same passions…
on the part of the individual doing said judging and harms all within its’ processes. The individual is unable to see the possibilities of another way of thinking that is beyond the scope of their own microcosm. A great sociologist, William Graham Sumner was the first to put a name to this notion with emphasis on culture as the center that causes “other attitudinal indicators” of them being racism, xenophobia, prejudice that justify an authoritarian structure. “Burdens by a linear, progressive conception…
