The Mid-term exam for PSYC 2314 will cover Chapters 1-5. This studyguide is simply a guide to direct you while you study. It is NOT meant as a short-cut or replacement for the required reading in this course. Students who are successful on my exams have read their assigned chapters ahead of time, taken notes or outlined their reading, and attended class regularly to engage in lecture/discussion. My advice to students in preparing for the exam is to focus on key vocabulary from each chapter, key theories, as well as key theorists. Studying your Quiz 1 assignment will also be beneficial since a large portion of the exam questions were pulled from your quiz assignment. There are approximately 75 questions on the exam, and students will have 75 minutes to complete it. Students must bring a scantron and pencil to the exam.
1.What is Lifespan development?
2. Distinguish between physical, cognitive, personality, and social development.
3. Distinguish between the major theoretical perspectives:
• Psychodynamic
• Behavioral
• Cognitive
• Humanistic
• Contextual
• Evolutionary
4. Be familiar with the different types of research.
• Correlational research
• Experimental research
• Naturalistic observation
• Case study
• Survey research
• Psychophysiological methods
4. Be familiar with key theorists and their theories/ contributions to the field.
• Sigmund Freud
• Jean Piaget
• Carl Rogers
• Albert Bandura
• Lawrence Kohlberg
• Lev Vygotsky
• Erik Erikson
• Charles Darwin
• Noam Chomsky
• Mary Ainsworth
5. Approximately 50 of the 75 questions were taken from your open-book quiz assignment. These questions may be reworded or restructured, but I encourage students to spend time reviewing the quiz assignment.
