Thousands of people will attack the death penalty. They will give emotional speeches about the one innocent man or woman who might accidentally get an execution sentence. However, all of these people are forgetting one crucial element. They are forgetting the thousands of victims who die every year by the hands of heartless murderers. There are more murderers out there than people who are wrongly convicted, and that is what we must remember. This is why I support the death penalty. When you execute someone, murderers are eliminated and foreseeable murders are deterred. DNA testing and other methods of modern crime scene science can now effectively eliminate almost all uncertainty as to a person's guilt or innocence. Prisoners that repeatedly try to appeal the death penalty will eventually walk out of jail, where there will be a cycle of crimes all over again. Society has always used punishment to discourage would-be criminals from unlawful action. Society has a high importance of preventing crime. The death penalty should be the strongest punishment to prevent crimes from happening. If murderers are sentenced to death and executed, potential murderers will think twice before killing for fear of losing their own life. When the death penalty is given, it allows closure to the victim's families who have suffered so much.
