Struggle For power and wealth has been the ultimate downfall for many civilizations over the years. The two books, Julius Caesar and Lord of the Flies, are perfect examples of how a world without law and order will be. Julius Caesar is based on a true event when the Roman empire falls into chaos after its emperor has been assassinated. Lord of the Flies is a fiction novel were a group of boys crash on a island with no adults nowhere to be found and they try and set up a civilized group, but end up becoming more like savages.
In the novel Lord of the Flies. the oldest of them all, Ralph, attempts to create a government with all the boys on the island so they can survive and soon get off the island. He wants to set up a conch system where if you have the conch u may speak, “Then I’ll give him the conch./ Conch?/ That’s what this shell’s called./ I’ll give the conch to the next person to speak./ He can hold it when he’s speaking./ But–/ Look–/ And he won’t be interrupted: Except by me.” (pg.45). However, Jack does not want Ralph to be ruler because he takes all the fun out of it and concentrates too much on shelter and the fire. Jack attempts to start his own tribe of savages and ends up destroying Ralph’s camp. Without law and order throughout the island Jack is free to do what he wants and it results in the boys going crazy only focusing on what they desire and not what they need.
Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, shows how a much larger and civilized government can fall into chaos and disaster just from the removement of control. With Julius Caesar rising into control, the conspirators felt as if he was too ambitious and had to be taken down “Et tu,
Bruté?—Then fall, Caesar./(died)” ( Jul.3.1.5.84). However, the conspirators saw him as a threat to Rome and called him ambitious. They saw the best thing to do was to eliminate Julius Caesar from the picture. With Caesar out of the way, Rome will fall into chaos because there respected
