Specific Purpose:

To persuade the members of my audience in becoming a Partner in Hope by donating/volunteering to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Thesis Statement:

Since 1962, St. Jude hospital has been a symbol of hope for children and families in the need. As one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers, St. Jude hospital continues to provide the quality of research and treatment relying on the support of many donors to continue its lifesaving mission of finding cures and saving children.

II. Satisfaction: If we all agreed to volunteer or donate at least once a month to help out those in needs, in this case the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital many of the problems could be alleviated.

1. With the total cost of childhood cancer exceeding many people’s yearly salary, help and support are the main focus for many childhood cancer advocacies. Therefore, increasing awareness is the first step to raising more advocacy and support for childhood cancer programs and research (StJude.org). 1. The daily operating cost of St, Jude Children’s Research Hospital is nearly $1.4 million, most of which is covered by public contributions 2. 85% of every dollar received goes into the current and future needs of the hospital 3. St. Jude is the only pediatric (children’s) cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. 1. At this point in the presentation I relate the personal experience of cancer in my family and the struggle that both my sister and my mother had to go through to be able to pay for the treatment.
