Should We “Spank” Our Children?

Corporal punishment is a form of physical punishment that involves the deliberate infliction of pain as retribution for an offence, or for the purpose of disciplining or reforming a wrongdoer, or to deter attitudes or behavior deemed unacceptable. The term usually refers to methodically striking the offender with the open hand or with an implement, whether in judicial, domestic, or educational settings.
In my opinion this is a huge problem at school. I believe that when corporal punishment was taken out of schools, it took away a lot of the respect that the children should have for the adults. In my own experience children do and say a lot of things to their teachers that they would not say at home. This is because they know that if the a teacher touches them all they have to do is scream child abuse and that adult goes to jail. A child should be taught to respect all of their elders wherever they are. When I visit my child’s middle school I can’t believe how those children act, or even the difference in how my own child acts at school verses at home. There is absolutely no respect there. When I was in elementary school we knew that if we misbehaved that we would get a paddle to the behind. This was not child abuse, it was order kept in the schools.
