Sociological Research Methods In this article, it emphasized that suicide, whether in the act of or contemplation of, is associated with psychological problems. Many of those who commit are usually depressed. Depression can come from many things, like failed relationships, family problems, finances are explained in the article. People that are suicidal feel disconnected from society which may explain their loneliness and the lack of care they have for people around them. They long to have someone to talk to and interact with. Sometimes the children of senior citizens seem to have more important things to do than visit with their family member. They believe that they have fewer reasons to live and are much more moody. Interaction is non-existent, since they do not connect to society, they have isolated themselves from the life of living in the modern world. They also may feel inadequate if they have physical disorders. Drugs and alcohol adds more to this depression which may trigger suicide. The article focused on the critical orientation of sociology to explain suicide and those of risk to it. For example, it describes the elderly as nonfunctioning people in society as they have to be taken care of, and they get the feeling of dependency and hopelessness.
