How are individuals influenced by society? Should we be?
Society always says, “You are beautiful in your own way” but then, contradicts itself by saying, “You have to be a specific type of person, with certain looks, specific hair, a specific body type, specific everything”. Society is a hypocrite.
People perceive themselves and the world they live in according to the culture they have been exposed to. It influences all ages by poisoning our minds with lies and aggression. From a young age the image of perfection is forced upon us, teaching us that no matter how hard we try, we will never be good enough.
With society being so manipulative, it forces individuals to become someone that they are not, creating a chain effect. It has taught us that being unique is essential to fit in, but in turn, we all know that we are easily judged. Not only are we judged by our personalities and intelligence, but by our outward appearance too.
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest ironies in society and the world that we live in. Like every influence in our life, it either has a positive or a negative effect. Positively, society teaches us to be a better person because we are continuously trying to be better than we are, which helps us reach our full potential. Negatively, society creates rules that are unacceptable to break. For example, expressing yourself with piercings and tattoos. However, are these rules and norms an illusion
