The world we live in is ever changing and evolving. Technology is in the fore front of our world and is constantly updating and becoming more relevant. One of the most used forms of technology is social network sites. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other similar sites bring people together like never before. Social network sites keep people in contact with one another regardless of their distance. They are able to communicate as if there is no divide whatsoever. In that aspect it is a great tool. Many people use these sites to express opinions, facts, and situations in their everyday life. It can be used as a support system when one is feeling alone and needs help, it can also serve as the floor of a debate where friends and followers can discuss current events and their opinions. These sites can also have some downsides. Sometimes people don’t know how much is too much. Too much personal information can lead to issues at work, at home, or within a marriage. Facebook was cited as a reason in at least a third of failed marriages in 2011 (Goldwert, 2012).
Networking can also be a weapon where information one never wanted shared can be leaked by another source. For example, an 18 year old Rutgers student killed himself in 2010 after a college roommate of his shared personal information over Twitter regarding his sexuality (Indian Express, 2010).
For the most part, the good does outweigh the bad. Facebook is a great place to keep in contact with friends and family scattered throughout the country, or to connect with
