With that being said, it is proven fact that smaller classroom sizes are the most beneficial to our children and their education. According to the National Education Association, students who are placed in smaller classes early in their school careers are likely to sustain educational success. Students participate in classes. They feel more comfortable asking and answering questions. They build relationships and camaraderie and feel part of the group; therefore, students don’t want to miss out. Surveys show that students who are part of smaller classes receive better grades then students in larger classes. Most importantly, there are fewer dropouts and fewer students repeating grades. Reduced class sizes provide an opportunity for educators to do more at the classroom level. They open doors that allow teachers to be more effective. Teachers can introduce more material and the curriculum can provide students with depth and a variety of learning. They can change their teaching style, cover material faster, and provide hands-on activities and projects. Teachers can also provide quick feedback to students in smaller classrooms. In smaller classrooms, there is much less frustration and anxiety for both the teacher and the student. This creates a comfortable environment and positive attitudes. Teachers are also much more equipped to manage the smaller class sizes and cope with behavioral issues more effectively. Parents also feel more comfortable volunteering at schools with smaller enrollment. Parents claim that these schools have more of a family-like environment rather than a building full of strangers.
