Sigourney Weaver was born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949. Her father was a TV producer named Sylvester L. Weaver Jr. and her mother a British actress named Elizabeth Inglis. She was brought up with nannies and maids and by 1959, the Weavers had moved in 30 different households.
Sigourney Weaver is best known for her works in the Alien film series. She attended Stanford University where she graduated with an English degree, then went to Yale where she got an MFA (Masters of fine arts) in drama. Her career did not start out on the screen but like most actors of note, on started on stage. One of her best known early works is that of the 1981 off-Broadway production Beyond Therapy. Her role as Ellen Ripley in the 1979 film Aliens, was arguably considered the first female action hero and made her popular, even earning her an Oscar nomination for best actress. Weaver also has critically acclaimed performances in films such as 1982’s The year of Living Dangerous, and 1988’s Gorillas in the mist where she played naturalist Dian Fossey. She won best supporting actress for her role in Working Girl and a Golden Globe for best Actress for Gorillas in the Mist.
