1. In Shakespeare’s the merchant of Venice the character shylock can be portrayed as the villain or antagonist in the play, but because of the actions of the other characters you can still feel resentment towards the other Christian characters.
2. Throughout the story, we see shylock as a greedy money lender who charges high interest and insists on revenge. In the play, shylock loans Antonio money, in doing so… shylock demands to be repaid by a certain time, and should the loan not be repaid he my cut a pound of flesh from Antonio’s body.
4. “'Fair sir, you spit on me on Wednesday last,
You spurn'd me such a day; another time
You call'd me dog; and for these courtesies
I'll lend you thus much moneys'? “(1.3.17). their hatred of each other may have been justified, but when Antonio comes for help from Shylock, the tables are turned. Shylock can rightfully demand an apology, or at least some recognition of the injustice against him.
5. Soon after shylock’s daughter Jessica runs away from home with Lorenzo, a Christian, and takes her father’s ducats with her. In doing this she left shylock with no family and little money for the Christian Lorenzo, with this you can see resentment for the Christian characters influencing situations that would deeply hurt shylock emotionally and physically.
