Should Marijuana be legalized?

This has been the question in long standing debate, wither or not to legalise marijuana. For hundreds of years the drug has been used, and it is been illegal to possess and trade in most countries for a long time. But now politicians around the world are discussing the idea of making it legal. Some countries already have made it legal, like Holland, Croatia and Argentina. The suggestion of making it legal is gaining popularity, but there are still a lot of people against the idea and want it banned completely.

A lot of people don’t want marijuana to be legalised for a number of reasons, one of which is because people think that it would lead to bigger things, like Cocaine and Heroin. They also believe that it warps your mind when taking it, and making you change in a bad way. Also it has been proven that if it used a sufficient amount of times, it will lead to dementia, schizophrenia, and other ailments that mean you will forget past memories and have shorter brain capacities. Another reason is that it is perceived to be highly addictive, meaning you would end up spending all your money on it, and if you couldn’t stop you could maybe end up homeless or worse. One of the other reasons that it is illegal just now is because it is associated with unfashionable lifestyles, because it is thought to be a drug for hippies and rock stars, and basically just ‘’junkies’’.

They believe that it helps relief pain when someone is in a lot of pain, this has been proven by a study at the University of Freiburg in 2008, when the drug was given to 31 people with things like the flu, and diarrhoea and everyone one showed that they felt a lot better and there mind had been taking of the thought of pain. Also it is been proven that there have only been two deaths related to marijuana on record, and this was only because two teenagers smoked a lot of it in a cabin that didn’t have enough ventilation , which really isn’t the fault of marijuana. So when you see that there is practically no deaths because of marijuana, but then millions of deaths because of smoking, why isn’t smoking made illegal? Even alcohol as well, millions of deaths because of it each year, but still marijuana is illegal and not cigarettes or alcohol. It is also given to
