During Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth” different events take place resulting in different consequences. All of the events have different instigators but all lead back to Macbeth. Macbeth is not to blame for all of the events leading do his downfall as he has had help along the way. Macbeth also had helpers during the play the witches who prophesised his ruling which helped to convince him that he is the right king and Lady Macbeth throughout the play stands by his side to give him just a little more confidence.
At the start of the play Macbeth is seen as a hero as he had just won a war. 'O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman'. As the play progresses into act 1 we learn that appearances can be deceiving. 'Fair is foul, Foul is fair'. This is the main theme of the play and is introduced when the witches for tell the struggle of between good and evil which starts to enflame Macbeths desire to rule. Macbeth committed the murder against King Duncan instead of being patient and waiting for the prophecies to unfold themselves. Killing king Duncan was not enough as Banquo’s death followed ensuring that his children would not rule after Macbeth and his wife, Lady Macbeth. Because he had committed these offences Macbeth started to have visions and began to let slip of what him and his wife had done.
The witches in the play help push Macbeth to make the decisions he does. The witches are first introduced in act 1 scene 1 where they firstly predict Macbeths ruling. They then meet Macbeth “All hail Macbeth, hail thee Thane of Glamis” “All hail Macbeth, hail to thee Thane of Cawdor” “All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king here after.” The witches tell Macbeth of this great news. Macbeth tells his wife of this news. The witches are the ones who allow Macbeth to discover his future, and by doing this, they give him the opportunity to consider making the prophecy come true, how he chooses to make it come true was his choice though. Macbeth saw that the only logical way at the time, or so he thought, was to murder King Duncan.
The witches had started to push Macbeth into the bad decisions that would lead to his down fall but his wife, Lady Macbeth, is the person who stood by his side and helped to push him along and give him encouragement encase he is not capable of completing the required tasks. When Lady Macbeth first heard of the witches and what they had prophesised she was thrilled. They both realise that the only way to ensure the prophesies come true is to kill King Duncan. Macbeth become reluctant to do so thinking that they should just wait for the prophesies to unfold themselves, but Lady Macbeth reassures her husband, they had the perfect opportunity to kill the king which was when he stayed the night in their castle. However his conscience held him back from committing the murder. “First I
