STDs According to the National Institute of Health’s Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, “more than 65 million people in the U.S. are living with an STD-the majority of which are incurable viral infections” (Haerens21). There are many things that could make someone uncomfortable. STDs, “Sexually Transmitted Disease”, is one of them. People are uncomfortable with this topic because there are many of them that are victims of STDs every day, and the number of infections and infected people keep growing every year.
STDs are spreading at a rapid rate though time all around the country, and there are many people that have it without even knowing. “Nearly 25 percent of the U.S. population is infected, and the percentage continues to grow” (Haerens21). The numbers of infected people keep growing and so do the types of STDs. Millions of new STD cases occur every year and more than half are in young people. Most of the teens with STDs never seek medical attention because they do not notice or recognize symptoms. Some of the people who do experience symptoms may choose not to be treated because of fear or embarrassment. That is one of the main reasons more and more people get infected.
There are many different types of STDs. Sadly, some of the diseases are not curable and lead to death. Diseases caused by sexually-transmitted infections range from irritating but treatable to life threatening. Many of the people agree that there is no excuse for complacency.
