Balls Are In Your Court Castration: the removal of the testes. Would castration significantly reduce the desire of sex offenders to commit sexual oriented charges? That is the question that needs to be addressed. Many people believe castration to be cruel and barbaric and others believe it to be a beneficial course of action. This issue has been in huge uproar throughout the United States, some are very frightened by the discussion of this topic, but why? In the United States, an estimated 19.3% of women and 1.7% of men have been raped during their lifetimes. (Breiding, Matthew) There are many different arguments that are placed on this specific topic, some people believe that certain individuals dress inappropriate with revealing clothing which give predators the impression that the victim desires more than a friendly conversation. Studies show that once a sex offender commits a crime or a sexual oriented action, they will most likely commit the same if not worse action of that gratitude. How do you stop sex offenders from committing sexual crimes? Castration is a beneficial punishment for those whom have committed a sexual crime, castration is much deeper than ordinary solitary confinement it is a much more personal punishment that will make sex offenders think twice before committing a crime of that magnitude. There are many new predators that are being unfolded on a daily basis. More and more sexual oriented crimes are being committed. What can law enforcement do to break the bad habits of these criminals? Depending on the charge of the suspect they are always subject to jail time. But does jail time work? Most sex offenders after being charged and have completed their sentencing get out and continually commit the same crimes of that parallel injustice. Law enforcement tries many different acts of confinement and embarrassment to try to stop sex offenders from doing the same crimes continually over and over again. These acts of incarceration don’t seem to be making the cut. So why exactly do predators commit sexual assault on certain victims? There are many different situations that can lead a sexual predator to commit a sexual crime. Some believe it to be because of the revealing clothing the victim desires to wear, others believe it to be excessive alcohol consumption, and the list goes on and on. The main concern is stopping sexual predators from committing sexual oriented crimes. Recently technologists have come up with apps on every smart phone that identifies where sex offenders are located and who they are exactly. This has been very beneficial to some extent but not everyone knows of the apps. The embarrassment could lead some to believe this to be a heartless act of punishment to the predator, but others believe it is making others aware of the background of these cruel individuals. In the interview Martine Powell states that any offenders depending on the jurisdiction and type of offenses committed continually have to do checkups with police officers regularly so they can be monitored and case managed. (Powell, Martine) Castration is the most beneficial act of punishment for sex offenders. Castration is more than a physical punishment it is also an emotional punishment to the offender. While undergoing castration you are taking the manhood of that certain individual and there is no undoing the process, once completed you cannot get your testes back. Look at it in this perspective though. Sex offenders take the simplicity and pureness of an individual and rob them of their innocence. No longer able to get any of that back they have to come up with ways to forget about the trauma they once encountered. Leaving the individual clinging for help in an area that is helplessness.
