Part one of the service request, (SR-rm-022), will outline who are the stakeholders in Riordan Manufacturing that will be part of the information gathering process to update its HR Information System. Describe different information gathering techniques and methods that will be used. Explain what project scope is and why it is important and describing project feasibility that is examined in the SDLC.
Introduction
Hugh McCauley, COO of Riordan Manufacturing has contracted Orion Systems Consulting Group in developing an up-to date Human Resource Information System. He would like to take advantage of a more sophisticated, state-of-the-art information systems technology in their Human Resource department. Currently the company’s HRIS was installed 22 years ago in 1992.
Some of the handlings of the current HRIS is antiquated. Changes that are needed to be submitted to Human Resource are submitted in writing. Files are stored in a central storage area not in a centralized computer database. Workers’ compensation are being handled by a third party company. Individual managers have to keep track of employee files, such as FMLA request. Information about complaints, grievances, harassment complaints are kept on paper, locked and stored in the offices of the Employee relations specialist.
Orion Systems Consulting Group will work together with key stakeholders in developing a more secure and up-to-date Human Resource Information System that will provide improved data accuracy, integrity, security, better management of all employee information, reporting and analysis of employee information, and complete and simple integration into the company financial and accounting system.
Key Stakeholders
The key stakeholders of the process will be of those who input and guidance are needed to collect key information on developing the improved HRIS. The key stakeholders include CEO and President, Michael Riordan. Chief Operations Officer, Hugh McCauley. Director of Accounting & Finance, Donald Bryson. Kenneth Collins, SVP – R & D. Compensation and Benefits Manager, Terri Carranza. Director of Human Resources, Yvonne McMillian, and Chief Information Officer, Maria Trinh.
This focus group will be the primary on which information gathering will be collected, but can also extend out to individual users within the company to collect additional feedback. This separate focus group will include but not limited to IT managers, and HR specialists.
Information gathering
Information gathering is the most critical part in the analysis phase of a Software Development Life Cycle. No project will work by using one gathering technique but make use of many. Therefore the usefulness of a technique is determined by its need and the kind of advantages it offers in a particular project (Dera, 2011). Here the focus will include but not limited to these different information gathering methods. Such as:
1. Brainstorming – This is used in identifying all possible solutions
