The Theme of the book moose is determination. The book moose is about a unstable 13 year old girl Mandy. It takes place in the south where Mandy goes to school.Mandy is not self confidante with the way she is- i mean who is when you 13 and going through awkward changes- she fells that she is fat and not attractive. The boys at school don't make it better they taught and call moose. Her parents are hippies and not like the other parents which makes Mandy feel even more out of place like her overlying wieght. One of the ways the theme of the book shows determination is that her father treats her less because she is fat even though the father him self is fat too. When she is taken to a camp to loose wait she shows determination to loose weight because she wants the approval of her father the world around her.She wants to be skinny and to be loved by her family.
Another way Mandy shows determination is when her mother sighs her up for a health group for teens that are over weight .At first Mandy doesn't want to go but after awhile she starts to like it.Each visit they meet back up every 2 weeks to weight the members to see if they have lost weight. Each time Mandy goes back her weight She never really loses or gains weight it always stays the same. After awhile she gives up.
Another example of the way the book shows determination is when mandy is trying to loose weight at the camp and succeeds. She is happy that she lost weight and feels better that she lost weight.
