Intro to Healthcare system
Our Healthcare

I have learned a lot in the past few weeks about the healthcare system. Up until recently I had no idea that healthcare has been mainly run by the big name insurance companies. It was crazy to me that the insurance companies kind of dictate the care that you can receive and there is not much you can do about it. People who work for these insurance companies get paid more to deny you of procedures or any type of care you might need. It was surprising to see the incentives health insurance companies give to doctors for not giving the best quality of care. In a video we watched in class were one doctor would see a patient for about ten minutes or so and then make them an appointment for some type of surgery they would receive fifteen hundred dollars. On the other hand another doctor would see and talk to a patient for about twenty to thirty minutes and provide great quality of care but only receive thirty dollars. I really felt like it’s an upside down system.
Another thing about our healthcare system I was surprised to know was that we are not ranked number one. I feel like this is the United States of America, why are we ranked under some third world countries? It doesn’t make sense to me. In the video we watched in class it went into socialized healthcare. So here in the States people pay probably about three hundred dollars a month for healthcare and still don’t get the services they need. But it just seems like in the videos we watched were socialized healthcare was involved that they are getting free healthcare but also the quality of that healthcare is substantially better than what our healthcare. I was watching a video were this guy talks about the up streamist in the healthcare system. It’s basically about going that extra mile to give that patient better quality of care that can make a difference. In the video he talks about a patient who has been in and out of the hospital for multiple things but her breathing and coughing was a major issue. So by this doctor sitting with her and asking questions he found that her living conditions contributed to that. They found that her house had mold that which caused her medical issues and once that was rectified she no longer had that problem. So I feel if our healthcare system wasn’t all about the money and was about the healthcare doctors wouldn’t feel pressured to see thirty or more patients a day thus lowering the quality of care people receive.
We also talked about the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. There are a lot of things I
