Andrew Rushby, Mark Claire, Hugh Osborn and Andrew Watson. Habitable Zone Lifetimes of Exoplanets around Main Sequence Stars. Astrobiology. University of East Anglia.
In this article, the astrobiologists concluded that the earth will be habitable for the next 1.75 to 3.25 billion years. They found this information by studying the different habitable time frames of about 1000 other planets outside of our solar system. Through studying the habitable years of other planets they were able to estimate the remaining years that our planet earth will have based on the position of our planet to the sun and the position of the other planets related to their closest star.
This article relates to our class due to the fact that during the next 1.75 billion years the earth will pass through many different climate changes that could eventually lead to the extinction of life on this planet. However, this time frame estimate is so far away that we may not even
