Big City vs Small City
According to Census 2010, San Francisco population is 805,235. It is the fourth most populous city in California. San Francisco is a beautiful city to live in but it can be overcrowded. A few years ago, my family and me moved to the suburbs to San Leandro. I could not adjust living there for a couple of years. I was used to living in a big city. There are more things to do in a big city. San Leandro population consists of 85,000, according to Census 2010. That is seven times less than San Francisco. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere besides San Francisco. In a news article on ABC 7 news, “ San Francisco is the third cities with the worst traffic in the United States.” In San Francisco, traveling time during rush hour takes 1.22 times longer than the same trip would take without traffic. It takes about thirty minutes to San Francisco, but with traffic, it will take an average of 1-1.5 hours from my own experience of driving. Car transportation in San Leandro is easy to drive to one destination to another. There are 30,800 people transport by cars each year, according to Census 2010. Cities nearby San Leandro are in close proximity; it makes it faster and convenient to drive to. You can drive local from San Leandro to Oakland or San Leandro to Hayward. It takes about 15 minutes each way. Parking is easy to find. Usually takes me no more than 5 minutes to find one and its cost is $.50 an hour for meter parking. In San Francisco, there are around 214,660 people that transport by cars each
Tran 2 year. There are so many drivers; it is hard to drive around in San Francisco, especially in the downtown area. Parking is always hard to find. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is. I spend around 15-45 minutes to find one. Meter parking is expensive. It is $3.50 for an hour.
I see that rush hour in the morning is usually towards San Francisco and rush hour in the evening is leaving San Francisco. I think the reason for that is people that lives in the suburbs works in San Francisco because it is a big city with more jobs opportunities and it can be view as the leading financial center. In downtown (financial district) San Francisco, you will find the largest concentration of corporates headquarters, law firms, banks and many other businesses. In San Leandro downtown, it seem as if it was just normal residential blocks. You don’t see tall building with many job opportunities. There are a lot of small businesses. From my knowledge, San Leandro minimum wage is $8.50 while San
Francisco minimum is $10.50. One reason my family moved to San Leandro is because houses are cheaper and affordable. You can buy a home from 200,000-500,000. In San Francisco, houses in the sunset district ranges from 700,000-1,000,000. My family sold our old home in San Francisco for 800,000 and bought a new built home in San Leandro for about 500,000. Many of the homes in San Francisco are old and expensive while you can find cheaper and brand new homes in suburban areas. During the summer, the weather is very nice and hot in San Leandro. On the website www.sanleandro.org, it says, “the average temperature is 71 degrees and average
Tran 3 rainfall of 19 inches per year, outdoor activity at any one of the many City parks is possible all year round.” On a nice sunny day, you can enjoy the day by going to lakes and parks. There is Lake Chabot in San Leandro. It is a big lake, you can hike, picnic, bbq, ride boats, etc.
San Francisco is known as the “fog city”. According to www.cityrating.com the average temperature in the summer is 62.7. It is always cold, foggy and windy. When I drive to San Francisco, I see the thick fog as I drive cross the Bay Bridge. Driving back to San Leandro, the weather is nice and sunny. Using 2010 Census 2010, Trulia revealed that San Francisco’s restaurants outnumbered every city in the America. It was listed, as number one with the most restaurants in America
