The Tragic Story of “Feisty”

In the summer of 2011 the poor death of a baby raccoon named Feisty taught me a life lesson about suffering and letting go.

It was a hot summer afternoon on August 2nd, 2011 and my cousin Brileigh and I were on our daily walk at the McCrank farm when we came across our neighbor’s dog Buck chewing on what seemed to be a a small animal. Brileigh who is an animal lover started to cry, so I ran up to Buck and hit him hard on the back. Being the wimpy dog he is, Buck dropped an injured baby raccoon the size of a kitten out of his mouth and ran away. The baby raccoon was badly bleeding and in pain, Brileigh and I knew we had to act fast. We ended up convincing Brileigh’s mom (my aunt Leigh Anne) to take the poor thing to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Rousseau.

Once we arrived at the wildlife sanctuary we brought the baby raccoon to the front office and they immediately took it under there arms. “We believe that every creature has a right to life and we will do everything we can to ensure it’s quality of life.” Said the female worker at the front desk.

We trusted that the baby raccoon would be safe there and taken care of At the sanctuary so we said our goodbyes to the baby raccoon who was in deep pain and left.

After we left in the car ride back home we decided to name our little friend (the baby raccoon) “Feisty” because of the way he would hiss at us like a cat and seem to be angry or Fiesty.

A week had gone by and Brileigh and I were constantly thinking about Feisty and hoped that he was alright. So my aunt Leigh Anne drove us down to the Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary again to
