Chapter 10 review
10.1

1. the united states congress is a bicameral branch of government.bi-cameral means the house is divided into two chambers, one is the house and the other is the senate.

2. By giving each State equal representation in the Senate and representation proportional to its population in the House, bicameralism ensures a division of power.

3. Each Congress lasts two years and is comprised of two sessions. The dates of Congress' sessions have changed over the years, but since 1934, the first session convenes on Jan. 3 of odd-numbered years and adjourns on Jan. 3 of the following year, while the second session runs from Jan. 3 to Jan. 2 of even-numbered years.

4. Special session are rarely taken place because of the lessen needs of it’s importance and it’s article 1 section 5.

6. It would keep congress from overpowering the other branches of government, to keep in balance of each other.

7. Congress meeting nearly year round gives the President more opportunity to persuade Congress to do what he wants. The Vice President really has more influence, though, as he presides over the Senate.

1. The House has 435 members. The number of members from each state varies according to population but every state has at least one. House members serve for just two years and all come up for election at the same time, in even-numbered year.
The Senate has 100 members, two from each state. Its members serve 6-year terms, timed so that 1/3 of their terms expire with every House election.

2. Needs to be 30 years old, 9 years in citizenship, inhabited in state from where they came from.

3. House focus on short term events while senate focus on long term events.

4. They are less objective to public opinion and it pleases of special interested.

5. It’s mostly to keep the political heat off of congress and letting the house deal with it.

6. A one-person, one-vote constitutional challenge to congressional reapportionment by a state legislature is a justiciable issue.

7. All members of the House are up for election every two years. In effect, they are always running for election. This insures that members will maintain close personal contact with their local constituents, thus remaining constantly aware of their opinions and needs, and better able to act as their advocates in Washington. Elected for six-year terms, Senators remain somewhat more insulated from the people, thus less likely to be tempted to vote according to the
