Zeus This article is an in-depth look at the great god Zeus who is the supreme ruler of Mount Olympus. He is the ruler of all of our Greek gods, the sky, the weather, rain, thunder, and lightning. All Greeks recognize him by his long beard and the thunderbolt that he carries in his huge hands. Zeus knows all things and can see all things. To me he is a protector and father figure, especially to guests that we have and to our strangers. Zeus was born to Cronus and Rhea who were members of an earlier race of ruling gods that we worshipped known as Titans. All of the children of Cronus, including Zeus defeated the Titans. Zeuss brothers are the gods Hades and Poseidon. His sisters are the goddesses Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. After that Zeus took the place of his father and ruled from his home on Mount Olympus. To become supreme ruler he had to draw lots with his brothers Poseidon and Hades. He won the draw and became the supreme ruler. Zeus now heads a family of 12 gods and goddesses that we call the Olympians. Zeus is currently married to the goddess Hera but as we know he has had many affairs. His love affairs have been with goddesses and mortal women and because of that he has fathered many children. Zeus children include the goddess Aphrodite the gods Apollo, Dinonysus, and Hermes and the mortal heroes Perseus and Hercules. By himself Zeus gave birth to the goddess Athena.
