“ I see the eight of us with our “Secret Annexe” as if we were a little piece of blue heaven, surrounded by heavy black rain clouds. The round, clearly defined spot where we stand still is safe, but the clouds gather more closely about us and the circle which separates us from the approaching danger closes more and more tightly. Now we are surrounded by danger and darkness that we bump against each other, as we search desperately for a means of escape. We all look down below, where people are fighting each other, we look above where it is quiet and beautiful, and meanwhile we are cut off by the great dark mass, which will not let us go upwards, but which stands before us as an impenetrable wall; it tries to crush us, but cannot do so yet. I can only cry and implore: “Oh, only the black circle could recede and open the way for us!”

Application Question#10

If the story had taken place in another time live would have been totally different for Anne and her family. There is a complete difference in life styles in the mid-1900’s and now. In the 2011 life style we have a whole lot more of technology and if the Frank family were living at this time they probably would have survived without having to go to the concentration camp. They would have been able to change their identies and leave Holland and move to the United States where there is freedom. Life wasn’t easy to live in the mid-1900s they had cars, black and white tv’s and barely any telephones. The technology we have now in the present would have made a drastic change to not only the Frank family but also the other Jewish families trying to escape going to the concentration camp. When you look at life now and lives the people had during the Holocaust I feel very grateful for living a safe and freedom life.

Analysis Question# 11

During the beginning of the story Anne has a quite average childhood like any thirteen-year old. Her personality is very upfront and always sticks up for what she believes in. When Anne and her family were forced to move into the “Secret Annexe” her childhood was mostly taken away. She would always write in her diary, and describes what kind of dilemmas that are happening. Anne seems not to get along with most characters in the annexe. But one person who she does get along with and also adores is her father. In most arguments Anne gets into her father sticks up for her variously. Her behavior is described quite irritant by many of the characters, which causes conflict. She likes to write in her diary constantly, because paper can’t cause conflict with her. As time passes in the annexe Anne has matured and she has conquered many obstacles standing in her way in becoming a women. Also her writing has changed from when she had first wrote and, she dreams of becoming a writer when she’s older. Once her family is caught by the German police and she is sent to the concentration camp she was no longer able to write in her diary.
