The way I see it, religion is a faith and belief. It’s hard to define it but I believe humanity is drawn to religion for various reasons. One reason is because we’ve been educated that way. I myself was brought up as a Hindu, and practiced Hinduism. Humanity also practices religion because of curiosity. People wonder how the world came to be, why we exist and if death is the end or a new beginning. Religion is what provides perception and gives us a purpose to life. Another reason is because humans want to have a sense of belonging. Religious activities allow you to be a part of something. Religion offers a set of morals. It helps you shape your character and think about how we should live. It helps you distinguish from right or wrong. Religion offers certainty to people. When times are rough, it’s comforting to know that God is always there to get you through it. Many people embrace a belief system based solely on faith because they don’t need evidence. “Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says” (Ben Stein). Likewise, the religious are the ones that don’t question Gods will but rather have faith in their belief system, it could be scriptures or teachings, but they still believe in it without any proof. Ben Stein’s commentary sends out an extremely important message. No matter what religion one chooses or wishes to believe in, we should respect each other and most definitely not judge a religion based on its beliefs. We make time to follow up on celebrities such as Nick and Jessica but can’t make that time for God.
