Grunge Music
Grunge music is the most controversial types of music. There are many people who love it, and many people who dislike it.my older brother who grew up in the 90’s is a huge fan, whereas my mom who grew up in the 70’s, not so much a fan.
My mom, Shelly, was born in 1968. She grew up with, and was exposed to lots of earlier forms of rock. She listened to lots of stuff like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and Janis Joplin. During the 70’s time period many controversial things where taking place suck as the Viet Nom war, Civil Rights movement, and liberation from the government. A lot of music was geared towards peace, and bring people together.
Kam, my 22 year old brother grew up during the 90’s. During this time period he was exposed to lots of grunge music and the turning point of a generation. This was a much darker time in musical history and heavily affected many people who were exposed to it. He grew up listening to many bands like Alice and Chains, Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In my mom’s opinion the music of earlier times held more meaning with the lyrics and melodies vs. grunge music. Grunge music only tells about the darkness within people, vs. the times they live in. The music of my mom’s generation told the story of real people and people as a group. Grunge music deals with feelings more and more about how they feel as a individual.
My brother believes that grunge music is way more personal and had taken music to a new place.it showed the pain
