Egyptian belief in the afterlife had a great influence with the construction of cities. The Great Pyramids are one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and believed by Egyptologists to have been constructed as tombs. According to Baines and Lacorvara, "preservation of the body was essential for conventional conceptions of an afterlife." However, it requires great wealth to build these types of tombs, so they were reserved for the elite of Egyptian society. These massive tombs are still around even after 4000 years of wear, as a testament to the prevalence of religious believes in Egyptian cities.
Religious beliefs do not necessarily have an impact on the construction of today's cities. Even though it doesn't effect the construction, we still build massive churches and grave yards, for the comfort of the living and a resting place for the dead respectively. Egyptians strongly believe in afterlife. this belief of theirs led to a series of influences on how their society was built. they believed that an individual possessed two souls: one for living and one after death. they believed that the body was really important for the afterlife and needs to be preserved properly. This process was called Mummification. this belief led them to discover new ways of preserving a body and removing internal organs from the body without damaging it too much. the concept of a pyramid came from the ancient pharaohs.
