Worksheet ch.6 * Sex biological differences between male and female. * Sex from biological perspective: is determined by how many chromosomes a person has. Depending on the chromosomes we call them male and female. Each has 23 chromosomes. Some physical differences between male and female: males tend to have deeper voice, more hair and naturally being more muscular. When the women tend to have wider hips and growth of breast as well as fatty tissue: all that is needed for giving birth. But it is not always as clear as it sounds, like some people are born with both characteristics they called intersexual. As well as transsexuals: people who think that they are one sex when biologically they are another. * Sex from cultural perspective: is a cultural view of sexuality. Different countries have different norms and ways of thinking. Some countries kiss in public and it is normal when for other it is strictly a private moment. When others don’t kiss at all. Modesty changes from country to country. * Sexual revolution is a change in sexual attitudes and practices. First change occurred in the 1920s when people from rural areas moved into cities and enjoy considerable sexual freedom.1930-1940s World War II and Great Depression slowed down the rate of that movement. After 1945 Alfred Kinsley set a new role what they called the sexual revolution. 1948 study of sex. 1960s young generation experiences more freedom in their attitude toward sex. 1946-1964 baby boomers were the first to grow up with the idea that sex is a norm of life. 1960 the birth control pill was invented. * Sexual Counter Revolution: started after the 1970s. Era of returning back to family norms and values. There is a critic of free love and people living together before marriage as well as having kids. * Teenage pregnancy: there are 750,000 teen pregnancies in the USA each year. Problem with teenage pregnancy is that physically they are mature but emotionally not many understand consequences and responsibility of their choice.
