Purpose: An event that allows students to showcase their knowledge. It also promotes teamwork and motivating one another. In addition, this event gives the winning team a sense of pride and the losing team a sense of sportsmanship.
Total number of expected people: This is not confirmed; however, there will be two teachers and at least 7 people per team, to give a minimum total of 14 students. (not sure at this moment)
Game Format and Rules:
This game is formatted jeopardy/slideshow style with: numerous categories and questions to choose from, one round of twenty-five questions, two teams, and daily doubles (which are described later on). The purpose of this game is to answer as many correct answers as possible in order to gain the most number of points, in an effort to defeat the opposing team. Additionally, there will be: two judges (who will also act as scorekeepers), two MC’s, and one timekeeper.
To start, the students will be separated into two distinct teams: Team A and Team B. These selections will occur at the discretion of the teachers present and the Teen Library Council (TLC) members. However, the students themselves will decide what team goes first via a friendly game of rock-paper-scissors, in which two representatives for both teams will face each other until a winner is determined by the TLC members.
Just to be clear, in the game of rock-paper-scissors, rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper, and paper beats rock.
Also, for every question, there will be a different spokesperson for each team who will: stand up, choose a question, and then answer the question. This individual will then have the option to answer the question right away, should they know it, or consult the team to give a group answer
In this game, there are five categories, which consist of the following: Dramatis Personae, Events, Where am I?, Clues to the Mystery, and Random.
Each category has five questions, thus giving a total of twenty-five questions. Furthermore, these questions will not be revealed to the contestants until they have chosen a question to answer.
Participants will choose a question to answer by first selecting a category, and then choosing the set number of points that they wish to obtain, namely: 200, 400, 600, 800, or 1 000 points. The more points a question is worth, the harder the question will be.
Moreover, each team will be given only a certain amount of time to answer the question of their choice, after which their spokesperson will either give an answer, or the question will be passed on to the opposing team. THERE WILL BE NO PENALTY FOR A WRONG QUESTION. Now, the timing for the said question will begin promptly after the question has been read. For 200 points, participants will have 20 seconds to answer; for 400, they will have 30 seconds; for 600, 40 seconds; for 800, 50 seconds; and finally, for 1 000 points, contestants will have 60 seconds to answer.
In the event that both teams are unable to come up with an appropriate answer – as is deemed by the two judges – NO TEAM WILL GET THE POINTS FOR THAT QUESTION. Instead, the answer will be read aloud by the MC’s, after which the game will resume with the next team (that is, the team who did not select the previous question) choosing their question. As well, should a question be answered by – for example – Team B, though it was Team A who originally chose the question, then it will still be Team B’s turn to choose a question next.
Daily Doubles: A daily double is a chance
