Reasoning Behind Treatments: Mood Disorders: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
TMS is a specialized electromagnetic device that is placed on the scalp to send speliazed magnetic field pulses to parts of the brain that help regulate mood. This chemically changes the neurotransmitters that are responsible for mood behaviour. This treatment is fairly safe, and is one of the only electromagnetic treatment that I could find that is approved by the FDA.
The reason why I chose this treatment is because it’s safe (for as much as the scientists know) and doesn’t require sedation or anesthesia for the sessions. Without insurance, TMS can cost up to $14,000, which isn’t that bad. I chose not to prescribe Fred Fredrickson with any drugs.
