I have not really tested a theory; but what I did do was take in my ex-husbands niece for a time. She was diagnosed as ADHA (Attention –Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), when I first took her in, her mother was on drugs very bad, and she was going to rehab so I decided at the time to try, and help this child. My daughter was the same age so I thought that with her help she could live a normal life. The first thing that I had done was to get her to see a doctor, so that she may get the proper medication.
After I had gotten her the proper medication, I researched more to find out if there was any side effects, because I was noticing that the child would not speak to me, I would hear her whispering to my daughter, but she would never answer me when I asked her questions, nothing so I decided that maybe she just needed time to get to know me better. A month went by, and to no avail this child still would not speak to me, but I could hear her playing, laughing, and talking loudly to my daughter.
So I decided to take her back to her doctor, because I knew that I have loved on her, talked to her if she did wrong not yell like she was used to. I do not believe in yelling at children when you can sit down and speak to them instead, then if they need disciplined you can do it in a way where you are not angry.
