SA-1 Name 3 cultural/societal changes that have led to emerging adulthood being characterized as a distinct stage. Describe how this stage differs across cultures.
Emerging adulthood is a time when young people begin to change their mind about what they want to do in their future.This has become such a distinct stage in our nation because of all the new complex career’s and the education that is needed to get them.Young people now hold off on starting a family till they have there education and financially ready. Which is what my husband and I have chosen to do with our lives. I suppose that we are in our emerging to adulthood stage at this point in our lives.
We live in a industrialized nation so we have the opportunity to be able to go through this stage in our lives, but unfortunately other poorer countries do not have that opportunity.For example
Berk tell us how in some countries woman are limited to the education that they can receive and end up getting pregnant at a young age so therefore they are unable to experience this stage in their life.

SA-2 Seth was well behaved throughout elementary school but began associating with the
“wrong crowd” in 8th grade. At the age of 16, he was arrested for property damage after he was caught vandalizing a local community center with his friends. Describe the 2 types of adolescent delinquency. Which path is Seth most likely on? Explain your decision.
Adolescent delinquency is described as an illegal act that is committed by a minor. Seth is unfortunately heading down the wrong path because of the crimes he is starting to commit.Vandalizing the local community center probably isn’t the only illegal act that he has committed, Berk states that usually a few minor crimes are committed like petty theft during adolescents.Seth is at a crossroads in his life, he can choose to continue towards the wrong path which leads to more serious crimes and jail time. Or he can choose to go down the right path and try to work through what he has done and try to change for the better of his future. I have met many people that say “ you are a product of your environment” but not I. Yes it must be difficult to overcome peer pressure and joining certain peer groups, but anybody has the power to change the person they are and the person they want to be. That is why I believe Seth will probably change his ways especially if he has a supporting family.

SA-3 Describe the concept of friendship in middle childhood. How might friendships look different during this stage when compared to preschool-aged friendship? Provide 3 characteristics that define middle childhood friendships.
The concept of friendship in middle childhood differs greatly from Preschool friendships.
In the preschool age children consider other children as friends just because they play and interact with each other which is why they say they have lots of friends. Whereas during the middle childhood their relationships become more complex because of the developmental stage that they are currently at. At this age they choose friends that are in many ways like themselves because of all the things they have in common. They begin to see friendships are people they can trust and rely on if they are sad or just need someone to talk to. These relationships have great importance in this stage because that is when they begin to learn about trust, shows them how to problem solve properly, and helps strengthen their prosocial skills for future relationships.

SA- 4 Eric, age 10, and Martina, age 10, are classmates. While eating a snack after school, Eric admits to his mother that is worried about not growing fast enough because Martina- “a girl”- is physically bigger than he is.
