Religion in the classroom
Bringing the Bible back in the classroom has been a very controversial subject for some time now. Some people who believe it would be very beneficial to allow them back in the classroom seeing as how they are allowed in prison. Religion in public schools has been around many years. In fact,it started in the colonial period of United States history when the schools were thought to be an arm of the church; therefore, their curriculum contained religion. There are two views about this controversy. Those who are for an amendment in the Constitution to allow prayer in schools and those who don’t and believe it isn’t ok to have prayer and bibles in classrooms. I believe that bibles and prayer should be allowed in all classroom not just in Christians schools especially if their allowed in prsions. The removal of prayer from our schools was a violation of the third commandment which commands us “not to take the name of the Lord in vain.” (David Barton). Similarly, they cannot stop a student from bringing their Bible to class. However, it is important to remember the Bible should not be a distraction from school itself. It is just the same as another book. As long as students are not distracted themselves or distracting other students from what needs to be done, there is nothing unlawful about bringing or reading a Bible.
