Kent didn’t know what to expect when Dan ordered him to get out of the car at Wounded Knee, but he did it anyway. Just like he always did. Kent admitted once they got to the grave site that he felt a shiver come over him, as if something was alive there but nothing was living. Dan circled the fenced in area and would chant things and he would stop ever so often and tie a piece of cloth out of his bag onto the fence. He also offered tobacco to the wind. This monument that they visited was the grave site of 200 innocent people who died in the Chief Big Foot Massacre in 1890. Dan ordered Nerburn to free himself of himself, because that wasn’t what he was there for.

Dan was tortured in boarding school. The teachers were mean to him and would tie his penis shut so that he wouldn’t use the restroom in the middle of the night. It doesn’t end there. They tortured these poor children and would smack them if they tried to speak in their native tongue. No one should have to endure that kind of treatment, especially children. This makes me feel terrible for any Native American child that had to go through this pain and suffering and what the white men did to them.

I named my rock Phoebe. Phoebe means strong. Latinized form of the Greek name Φοιβη (Phoibe), which meant "bright, pure". In Greek mythology ‘Phoibe’ was a Titan associated with the moon. This was also an epithet of her granddaughter, the moon goddess Artemis. The name appears in Paul's epistle to the Romans in the New Testament, where it belongs to a female minister in the church at Cenchreae. In England, it began to be used as a given name after the Protestant Reformation. A moon of Saturn bears this name (in honor of the Titan).
She has been in my book bag since the day I got her. Sometimes I forget she’s there and for some
