Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs in our world. It is harmful and very expensive. Tobacco costs our nation more than one hundred billion dollars on average each year. A single cigarette shortens a smoker’s life by around eleven minutes. Smoking is a huge problem in our world today. Its causes addiction, multiple diseases, and the recovery are very difficult.
Nicotine is one of the main ingredients in tobacco. Nicotine is a powerful drug that speeds up the brain and central nervous system. Over time, your brain adjusts to the nicotine high and lowers your mood and natural energy. You may start to crave a cigarette for a boost. This is called an addiction. Soon, your body craves the deadly cigarettes in order to feel normal. The results of not having a cigarette are considered unbearable to most heavy smokers. The effects of not smoking are called withdrawals. Withdrawals affect a smoker both physically and mentally. Withdrawal symptoms last about a week for most people. Being without nicotine for even a few hours can cause withdrawal symptoms like headaches, depression, anger, anxiety, and problems sleeping. Withdrawal symptoms are a sign that your body is healing. They wont last forever.
There are many diseases due to the usage of tobacco. Cardiovascular disease is main cause of death due to smoking. The disease hardens the arteries, which causes blood clots, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Blood clots in the heart and brain are the most common deaths of sudden death. Smoking causes Thirty percent of people who have heart attacks. Smokers are more likely to get cancer than non-smokers. Ninety percent of lung cancer cases are due to smoking. If no one smoked, lung cancer would be very rare. Only point five percent of people who have never touched a cigarette develop lung cancer. The more cigarettes you smoke in a day, the longer you smoke, the higher your risk of lung cancer. Its best if you don’t pick up a cigarette up at all.
Recovery is very difficult but it is not impossible stopping. Stopping smoking is the single biggest thing you can do to improve your
