Hinduism and Buddhism are two of the world's greatest and most influential religions. Both have been a part of India's culture for a long time and have had a great deal of effect on each other. Hinduism is one of the most ancient religions known to the humankind, emerged in what is now India and traces back to as far as 3,000-4,000 years ago. It is a complex, varied religion. It has many forms, which differ greatly from one another. Hinduism is considered a major world religion because of its approximately 700 million believers and has influenced on many other religions during its long history. Buddhism has been described as a very logical religion, and takes a very straightforward look at our human condition. Buddhism is a religion to about 300 million people around the world. The word comes from 'budhi', 'to awaken'.
Both of these religions began in South Asia, and stem from a similar philosophy and culture. Hinduism and Buddhism both have numerous gods and both follow the same paths to ultimately achieve Nirvana, which is a place where all the enlightened beings reside. Both Hinduism and Buddhism share recognition of the material world as being superficial and complete fantasy. In addition both religions unite that attachment to world interfere in the way of eternal salvation. The concept of emptiness (Sunyata), which is unique to Buddhism, states that man’s suffering stems from his confused notion that all objects that we perceive are independent entities and have substance.
