November 27th 2014 Back in the 17th century, Francois Marie Arouet thought all men should have freedom of speech and freedom of the press. This idea was written into the Constitution of the United States, and now implemented in American society that people have the liberty to speak openly without fear of government restraint. In the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, it clearly stated " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This means that the government is not allowed to stop people from talking even it is negative; in other words the government should make no law that limit the freedom of speech or freedom of the press. Also to check and protect the rights that people should own, the government created the bill of rights. The freedom of speech and freedom of the press are two of the rights that are written into the first 10 amendment. As stated in the first amendment, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…” Again, Government shouldn’t interfere what people say and what they put on the press. Today, in American society, people discuss current events in their private conversation; discuss publicly in the press. For example demonstration is one way that people speak out when they think things are unfair or they want to persuade other people to join in their actions. The government is unable to stop them as long as they don’t commit a crime. Just recently, an 18-year-old boy, Michael Brown was shot by a white police officer. People held a silence demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri, Thursday night to protest the
