It was all good jus a week ago lolThere have been an array of events that have occurred in my life that have been memorable to me. Being a part of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity mentoring program, Men of Tomorrow, is an experience that brings some of my fondest memories. This program is geared toward motivating students from underserved communities to continue their education, and helping students succeed in high school and college. I have been truly privileged to be a part of this progressive organization for the past five years. There were numerous activities that we participated in that expanded my knowledge on how to be a Progressive black man in America. One of these activities included traveling to different colleges Florida. These college included Historically Black Institutions and Predominately White Institutions. I appreciated the opportunity to visit both types of institutions but my desire to attend a Historically Black Institution intensified when I visited Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). FAMU offered tradition and sense of freedom. I was amazed but the diversity amongst the students and the acceptance of one another. Not to mention, I come from a family which includes a plethora FAMU graduates. All in all, it was in this activity of visiting different institutions, where I understood the importance of what it meant to be educated and I could feel the pride amongst the college students. I longed for the day where I could walk across a college campus and feel accomplished.
While in this organization we also participated in numerous community service activities. It was in these community services activities, where we painted and build houses for members of the community, where important discussions about what it meant to be a black man in America took place. I can remember a discussion we had about gender specific activities that occur in nuclear family. Some of these gender specific roles included yard work,
