After spending a year at De Montfort University, I have learnt a lot about myself and work ethic. This year has taught me how important time management is and has given me more of a drive to succeed. During the first year of the Textiles Design course, I covered many subjects including the construction of weave, knit and embroidery; as well as gaining knowledge on the importance of observation and interpretation. Learning every aspect of textiles design, I have found a keen interest to be within embroidery, as I enjoy working on a sewing machine and am able to portray my designs more creatively.

Textiles has always been my main passion, from GCSE level to studying at Kingston College on both first Diploma and National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing, as I enjoyed developing my skills in surface decoration techniques such as reverse applique, embroidery and print.

On the BTEC ND Fashion course I constructed a skirt and shirt, for a project based on architecture, which was modelled at the end of year fashion show and open days.

I have also developed my skills through enrichment opportunities outside of college. I also attended a three day knitting course in the summer of 2009, at one of the London College of
