Personal Goals
As with most people engaged in this class, I have contemplated the question: what do I want to accomplish with my life? This intricate question burdens many people, not just those of us that have chosen to continue our education. I have seen it with my own children as they contemplate which career path will lead them to a comfortable life with financial stability. My most obvious goal and reason for enrolling in University of Phoenix is like every other student: to complete this program and earn my degree. However, the fruition of my goal ultimately depends on the fulfillment of smaller, more personal ambitions. My first objective was
I chose to major in accounting because I feel the knowledge learned would provide added value to my current endeavors, and obtaining a degree would then allow me the opportunity to obtain my CPA accreditation. Once I have reached this goal, I would like to then expand my knowledge to include tax preparation, which could be an integral component utilized to expand my own company. At the inception of entering this scholastic environment my goal was to take the "Readers Digest" approach and just try to get through the coursework to get to the end result. I find, however, that this is not a logical or practical approach that provides any benefits. There is a wealth of information to be digested, and by just getting by; I potentially cheat my mind of valuable resources that while it may not seem to have an immediate impact, may be of some use in the future.
"Deciding to commit yourself to long term results, rather than short term fixes, is as important as any decision you'll make in your lifetime." (Robbins, n.d.) I am thrilled that I have taken the first step in continuing the betterment of my life with education. I will look at each task as a valuable resource and set goals that will become the stepping-stones to my mental growth of knowledge. The value of success has no limits and is unique to each individual. The knowledge that I will encounter along this path and the potential obstacles that I may endure will make
